Daybreak Colony

A crashed ship. An alien jungle. A missing colony.

What happened on Daybreak?

Anikka has worked her butt off to earn a place on the Last Resort, a colony ship leaving overcrowded Earth. But instead of a peaceful trip to a new world, Anikka wakes from cryo-sleep as the Last Resort crashes in the jungle, completely ruining her plans.

Wounded and alone except for an anxious AI, Anikka is determined to survive even when the planet itself is trying to kill her. All she has to do is get to the colony. But rising mysteries trip her every step of the way. Why did the ship crash? Why isn't anyone from the colony responding? What happened to the people who were supposed to be there? Anikka's life depends on finding the answers. Before whatever got the colony gets her, too.

A desolate landscape. A found colony. A boy without a past.

Who is Ren Arlo?

Anikka has survived her first six months on Daybreak and made the harsh planet her home. She knows how to avoid megawings and eats slasherfins for breakfast. She even has BB again, the integrated AI who doesn't remember trying to kill her at all. But just surviving isn't enough anymore. Anikka made a promise to herself and to the colonists that she would find them and keep them alive through Daybreak's energy storm.

She and BB set off to find the missing colony, heading into parts of Daybreak they've never explored before. But when they finally find them, they aren't as lively as she and BB had hoped. Anikka can revive exactly one of them, and she picks Dr. Carver, the one who has the best chance to help her save the others. Except the labels were wrong. Now she's stuck with Ren Arlo, a random electro-tech who has nothing to do with Dr. Carver. Or does he? He must have been in Dr. Carver's place for a reason, even if he can't remember it. Anikka races to find out why Ren is important and if he can help her save the others before the next energy storm breaks them all.

The Last Resort is falling.

First class med tech Kara Knight did not sign up for a disaster. She signed up to wake sleepers on the colony ship and sail back to Earth with her new boyfriend. But the moment the ship reached the planet Daybreak, something hit them. Something big. And now all her plans have been cancelled in the rush of a disaster large enough to swallow her and nearly a thousand colonists.

Kara can do nothing about the ship crashing. But she can choose what to do with her last moments. She can choose to save as many people as possible. And maybe in the process, save herself.
